Hello, my name is Katie. I recently joined the team at The Primrose Breast care centre as their new Clinical Psychologist.

I have brought with me lots of experience working in a range of different mental health and physical healthcare settings, including in community services and hospitals.

I am looking forward to supporting breast patients who have a range of difficulties or concerns. I will use talking therapies and other Psychological approaches to help patients understand their difficulties, assist patients with making decisions about their care, as well as provide coping mechanisms to try whilst dealing with challenges some patients may face.

Whilst this role will be challenging, it is a privilege to hear the experiences of the people we work with and for them to share their thoughts and feelings with us, at such a difficult time in their lives.

I understand that the people we support face very challenging circumstances, and the courage and strength they show inspire me every day.

I am looking forward to settling into the team, which has been so supportive already; I have had such a warm welcome. As this is a new role for the breast service it is very much a developing service however the aim going forward is to provide help with:

  • Working with people who are at a higher risk of developing breast cancer, as well as those with a breast cancer diagnosis.

  • Working with patients to think about their options and to make a decision about their care that’s right for them.

  • Helping patients to think about the support they will need to help them cope with the challenges these circumstances bring.

  • I will also be supporting all the Primrose staff with their working challenges.

It is totally understandable for a patient to have so many thoughts, feelings, worries and questions, all going on at once. I would like to remind anyone going through treatment to find time to pause, breathe, and be kind to yourself - You have a passionate and dedicated team working to support you during your journey through the service and we will all help you every step of the way.

In my free time I like spending time outside. I love gardening and going for walks on the coastal paths and am looking to exploring Devon.

I have also recently completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and relocated from South Wales in-order to take up this post.
